EDGE Named One of the Top 20 Economic Development Organizations in the Nation
Memphis, TN (May 4, 2020) – A busy 2019 that saw more than $680 million in investment and an additional 1,700 jobs for our area, has earned the Economic Development Growth Engine for Memphis & Shelby County (EDGE) a 2020 Mac Conway Award for Excellence in Economic Development by Site Selection Magazine. The award is given annually to the nation’s top 20 economic development organizations.
Site Selection’s Mac Conway Awards recognize the top local and regional economic development agencies in the U.S. for their roles in helping to deliver prosperity to their communities.
EDGE is being recognized along with the Greater Memphis Chamber.
Winners are determined by an index that examines 2019 corporate facility investment projects in metro areas, as tracked by Site Selection. Scores are awarded based on six criteria: total projects, total investment associated with those projects and jobs associated with those projects. The remaining three criteria represent a per capita calculation of those same metrics.
Site Selection said there were several projects of note for Memphis in 2020, including investments by FedEx, Indigo Ag, Cherry Tree, J.M. Smucker, Patterson Warehouses, AutoZone, Raymond James, Hyosung Heavy Industries and JNJ Express.
“Having long been a leader in transportation and logistics, greater Memphis is making a mark in such vital fields as agriculture technology and healthcare, particularly medical device design and manufacture,” said Senior Editor of Site Selection Magazine, Gary Daughters.
“Since EDGE’s inception, we have sought to be innovative and aggressive in our pursuit of investment in this area, using our resources to effectively stimulate local growth,” said EDGE President and CEO, Reid Dulberger. “Through our numerous PILOT, TIF and other programs, we remain laser focused on this goal, and this type of recognition from industry leaders shows the rest of the country is taking notice.”
In 2018, EDGE was awarded the Distinguished Development Finance Local Agency Award by the Council of Development Finance Agencies (CDFA). EDGE was recognized for tackling particularly complex and challenging financing concerns and its innovation of financing tools.
To date, EDGE has assisted projects that have created or retained nearly 38,000 jobs, drove $5.9 Billion in capital investment and generated more than $1.4 Billion in tax revenue for Memphis and Shelby County.
